The New York Yankees got blanked by the Athletics on Saturday, losing 7-0 at home. There was a little bit of a heated moment between the two teams at the end of the seventh inning and the reasoning behind it is really hard to believe.
This all happened after Yankees reliever Ian Hamilton handled a comebacker to the mound by Jacob Wilson and ran over toward first before tossing the ball to Paul Goldschmidt to get the out. Hamilton stared down Wilson during the play, and then had some words for him while making his way to the dugout.
What was Hamilton's issue? The pitcher didn't think Wilson hustled enough on the play and let him know that.
Here's the play:
Hamilton had this to say to reporters after the game: "He wasn't running out of the box, I was upset with the inning, and that was that. He asked me what I said, and I just walked off."
That's a very odd thing for a pitcher to say to a hitter. Also, Hamilton didn't even have a rough seventh inning, as he didn't give up a run.
The Yankees have been struggling a bit lately and it seems like everyone might be feeling a little too tense in the Bronx.

Sign stealing has been a hot topic during the 2025 MLB postseason, as teams aren't shying away from gaining a legal competitive advantage over their opponents.
In particular, subtle movements from baserunners on second base have been noticed by MLB fans who suspect the individual is attempting to relay signs to the batter in real time. Another example of this popped up on Wednesday during Game 4 of the ALDS between the Mariners and Tigers.
While on second base, Josh Naylor could be seen moving his arm in what appeared to be a signal to his teammate in the batter's box. Naylor wasn't even trying to hide it, either, as he blatantly lifted his arm into the air in order to relay the sign.
With Tyler Holton pitching to Mitch Garver in the fourth inning, Naylor, who was taking a lead off second base, could be seen gesturing with his right arm as if he was pushing something towards third base. The following pitch was a curveball that Garver swung through. Naylor continued to signal throughout the at-bat, never once bothering to try to be subtle with the antics.
FS1's Adam Wainwright made clear he wasn't a fan of the antics from Naylor, or other players, though he did note that it was well within the rules.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is on fire so far during the 2025 MLB playoffs and, on paper, that's likely set to continue Tuesday night.
Through two games, the Blue Jays slugger is currently 6-for-9 in the postseason, with two home runs and six RBIs. He's slashing .667/.600/1.333 with two home runs, six RBIs, and an OPS of 1.933. Sure, it's a small sample size, but Vladdy Jr. has hammered the ball in both of Toronto's American League Division Series wins over the Yankees.
In Game 3 on Tuesday, Guerrero will face off against a pitcher he has owned for years. With its season on the line, New York is sending lefty Carlos Rodón to the mound at Yankee Stadium. He'll be facing a lineup that is on a roll right now, but his matchups with the team's 26-year-old star will be closely watched.
Guerrero has 21 career plate appearances against Rodón and positively owns him. Against the 32-year-old three-time All-Star, Guerrero is batting .588, with an on-base percentage of .667 while slugging . That's not a typo. He has 10 hits in 17 at-bats, including three doubles and a home run, while he's added four walks. Perhaps most remarkably, Rodón has never struck Guerrero out. That's truly incredible.
Rodón has a lifetime K-rate of 9.89 and has topped 185 strikeouts in four of the past five seasons. Yet when he faces Guerrero, that ability vanishes.
Guerrero has a chance to add to his totals against Rodón in Game 3.
Blue Jays Looked Unstoppable in First Two Games of ALDS
Toronto crushed New York in the opening two games of the ALDS at Rogers Centre, winning Game 1 10–1, then following that up with a 13–7 blowout in Game 2 that was nowhere near as close as the score would indicate.
The Blue Jays scored eight runs off of Yankees relievers in Game 1, then hammered New York's Game 2 starter Max Fried. The man the Yankees inked to a $218 million deal last offseason surrendered seven runs on eight hits in three-plus innings. Guerrero had a grand slam, Daulton Varsho added two home runs, and George Springer also went deep. It was a good, old fashioned drubbing.
Those two wins put Toronto on the brink of the American League Championship Series.

After going 12 years without a Premier League trophy, the Manchester United fanbase will no doubt be getting restless at their lack of success on the field.
However, it’s certainly not been without serious efforts from the hierarchy, with the board spending a hefty chunk in the transfer market to aid their chances of top-flight success.
Over £800m has been sent since the summer of 2022, but many of the additions have subsequently failed to live up to the massive fees paid for their signatures.
Brazilian winger Anthony is arguably one of the biggest examples of their failures in the window, after paying £86m for his services three years ago, before departing for just £21m this summer.
However, despite the lack of impact from the aforementioned addition, one other player has proved his worth and made himself one of the best signings in the club’s history.
Bruno Fernandes’ record under different Man Utd managers
Bruno Fernandes is just one example of a player who has proven value for many for United in the transfer market – after he joined in a £47m deal from Sporting CP back in January 2022.
In his 299 outings for the Red Devils, he’s registered 100 goals and 90 assists, but which manager has the midfielder endured the most success?
His worst period at Old Trafford came under temporary boss Ralf Rangnick, with the German in charge of just 26 matches during the 2021/22 season.
Such a period saw the 31-year-old achieve a total of just 10 combined goals and assists in his 26 outings – an average of just 0.38 contributions per 90.
His second-lowest tally of goals and assists came in the Erik ten Hag era, with the Portuguese international only able to notch 63 goal contributions in his 120 appearances.
Such a period did see the club win two trophies – the FA Cup and Carabao Cup – something which no other manager in this list has managed to achieve.
Current boss Ruben Amorim has chosen to utilise the 31-year-old in various positions, mainly the number ten and eight positions, but it has still allowed the midfielder to have a positive impact.
He’s currently on 30 combined goals and assists in the manager’s 49 outings, but such a record is still shy of the one he produced under the guidance of Ole Gunnar Solskjær.
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes
The Norwegian utilised the Portuguese star as his key man, with such faith reflected in his tally of 79 goals and assists – an average of 0.81 contributions per game.
It’s clear that Solskjaer was the boss to get the best out of Fernandes, but can Amorim do the same with one other player already within his ranks?
The United star who’s the next Fernandes
United’s season in 2024/25 was one of their worst in their history, as seen by their 15th-placed finish in the Premier League under Amorim’s guidance.
However, that didn’t stop Bruno from impressing within the final third once again, as seen by his total of 18 combined goals and assists – the most of any player in the squad.
As a result of the lack of quality, the board invested over £200m into new attacking talents, with the likes of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko all arriving at Old Trafford.
Such moves haven’t prevented Mason Mount from being a key member of the squad, with the Englishman still playing a vital role during Amorim’s tenure.
He joined the Red Devils in the summer of 2023 for a fee in the region of £60m, but he’s somewhat struggled to live up to the expectations due to his injury issues.

However, the manager has since stood by the 26-year-old, subsequently starting him in five of the club’s league outings in the early stages of the 2025/26 season.
Mount has already netted his first goal of the campaign in the recent triumph over Sunderland, hopefully the first of many during the ongoing season.
Despite his recent struggles, he still has bags of time to be the club’s next version of Bruno, possessing numerous similar traits to the Portuguese international.
Mount, who’s been dubbed “world-class” by John Murtough, is capable of featuring in a number ten or eight role – just like Fernandes – subsequently highlighting his versatility.
However, his underlying stats also showcase his creativity, with the former Chelsea star ranking in the top 6% of all midfielders in England’s top-flight for long-balls completed.
He’s also created 1.6 chances per 90 to date, whilst also registering 4.3 chances in the opposition box per 90 – able to pop up in key moments – as seen against the Black Cats.
There’s no disputing that his first few years at Old Trafford have been a disappointment, but there’s a real hope that the current year can be the one in which he kick-starts his Red Devils career.
He has a long way to go until he reaches the heights of Bruno, but should he get there, Mount could play a huge role in any success endured under Amorim.
Man Utd star looks like their best signing since Bruno & it's not Mbeumo
Manchester United have struck gold on a player who could be more important than Bruno Fernandes.
With three defeats on the spin heading into the international break, it’s safe to say Arne Slot’s Liverpool were experiencing a mini crisis in confidence.
Now, after a 2-1 loss to Manchester United on Sunday evening, it’s clear that the Reds are engulfed in a major crisis, with 17 shots at the Red Devils’ goal not enough to nick a win, as the reigning Premier League champions went empty-handed for a fourth game in a row.
Mohamed Salah, again, showed signs of rust against Ruben Amorim’s visitors, as another big game passed the declining Egyptian by.
Salah's performance in numbers vs Manchester United
The 33-year-old attacker was seen as one of the world’s best last season as Liverpool romped home to the top-flight title.
Times have changed, however, with the once untouchable number 11 no longer his usual clinical self, with a total of three shots failing to beat Senne Lammens in goal for Amorim’s challengers.
Staggeringly, for a star that scored a blistering 29 goals last season in the Premier League, Salah is now without a non-penalty strike for seven straight top-flight games, with one big chance also agonisingly missed, as Harry Maguire broke Reds hearts late on.
With zero successful dribbles completed as well, on top of possession being carelessly given away 16 times, it’s clear that Salah is no longer the “top class” version of himself he has previously been – as he was once branded by Jurgen Klopp – with Slot perhaps ready to axe his usually undroppable number 11 for games to follow.
The Dutchman could well axe quite a few underperformers after the alarming defeat at the hands of their arch rivals, with one summer recruit once again struggling to get to grips with his new environment against the Red Devils.
3/10 Liverpool star was even worse than Salah
Salah wasn’t alone in letting his team down during the 2-1 defeat, with his attacking teammate in Alexander Isak, only managing 19 touches of the ball when leading the line for the lacklustre Reds.
Having cost a mind-blowing £125m to obtain from Newcastle, Isak must get up and running fast to dodge claims that he’s an expensive flop.
Milos Kerkez wasn’t purchased on the cheap, either, with the former AFC Bournemouth defender costing a mighty £40m to bring into the building this summer.
Unfortunately, despite being labelled as “one of the most explosive LBs in Europe” by one analyst ib social media shortly after leaving the South Coast behind for Anfield, Kerkez had a night to forget against the visitors from Manchester, as his Liverpool woes go on.

Indeed, when analysing the numbers, there are some positives for Kerkez to latch onto, with the Hungarian creating one big chance to try and steer his new employers back into the contest.
However, the negatives do start to pile up quickly on further inspection, with the 21-year-old only managing to register one accurate cross from eight attempted, which also led to the defender giving up possession a haphazard 15 times in total.
His unassured nature on the ball even led to Sky Sports’ Jamie Redknapp labelling him as a “nervous wreck” at half-time of the 2-1 defeat, with fellow pundit Gary Neville also once noting that Kerkez looks “naive” when donning Liverpool red, as opposed to excelling for the Cherries.
It could be time for Slot to bring back in the experienced head of Andrew Robertson for some calm, therefore, with London Evening Standard journalist Sam Tabuteau agreeing with the verdict on the young defender when brandishing a disappointing 3/10 rating his way at the close of the match, with Amad given “acres of space” down the left channel courtesy of the 21-year-old.
Kerkez will hope he can push on from this torrid start at Anfield in the games to come, but if Slot is potentially willing to drop Salah, he won’t bat an eyelid in getting rid of the promising full-back if needs be, as a drastic change of lineup could be needed to get the Reds out of their sophomore slump.

It may have taken six years, but Tarik Skubal has finally found his money pitch. And the Guardians were feeling it in Game 1 of the divisional round on Tuesday.
These Guardians know Skubal well. In addition to facing him three other times this season, they faced him just days ago in a crucial Tigers loss, one that helped cement Cleveland’s huge comeback to secure the AL Central title that, at one point, Detroit had a 15.5-game lead on Cleveland.
So, it was reasonable to wonder whether Skubal’s pitching would be effective Game 1, or whether the Guardians would have him figured out.
"It means a lot to take the ball in Game 1," Skubal said to a scrum after the game. "To have the trust of our whole organization, teammates, coaching staff, it means a lot."
Ultimately, he rose to the challenge of that honor, helping secure Detroit's 2–1 win. Skubal held Cleveland to a single earned run in 7.2 innings of work with a career-high 14 strikeouts. Propelled by his pitch, Skubal brought a strong body of work.
Skubal’s changeup to thank for huge Game 1 victory
Skubal’s changeup has emerged gradually year over year as a proportion of his pitching profile, with it finally overtaking his four-seam fastball as the most-used pitch he threw in a season in 2025 (31.4% frequency).
Here's a look at just how long this pitch has taken to emerge as his most used and most dominant:

So it was only right that on Tuesday, in an important Game 1 victory over the Cleveland Guardians, the majority of his 14 strikeouts came on the changeup, now his best pitch, dialed in over a number of years.

Seven—of half of his total strikeouts—came on the changeup. Twelve out of the 23 times he threw the pitch resulted in a swinging strike, with it being hit in play just three times.
"I was just kind of worried about executing each pitch and trying to do my best to live pitch-by-pitch… getting ahead and getting guys into leverage," Skubal said of his performance after the game.
The changeup went for a hit twice in the game: One was a soft ground ball by Angel Martinez, the other a line drive hit 105.5 MPH off the bat by Kyle Manzardo. Overall, the Guardians managed a single quality hit on the pitch all afternoon.
Tarik Skubal's slider was important, too
The changeup is, of course, a pitch that seldom gets the job done on its own. As a slower pitch, it’s one that catches hitters off guard after the pitcher has shown them something faster in the repertoire.
Skubal most frequently used the slider as his immediate setup pitch (the pitch right before the strikeout pitch) in Game 1. The slider was his strikeout pitch, but it served a clear purpose, forcing Guardians batters into seven foul tips and overtraining them to the ever-so-slight speed difference from the changeup.

Skubal strikeout on Tuesday was a swinging strikeout, proving just how well his deception worked as a result of the sequencing, for which catcher Dillon Dingler deserves credit for as well. Neither of the two hits off the changeup came with the slider as the setup pitch.
Asked about the slider usage after the game, Skubal laughed and said, "Is Dingler coming in here? Yeah, I don't know, he calls it and I throw it. That's kind of it. That's kind of how all of it goes. There's like two shakes a game and the rest are him calling it, and I just try to throw it."
Notably, his curveball, thrown just four times, was set up by a slider the lone time it baited a Cleveland batter to swing at it, and miss, on Tuesday.
It was a strong afternoon at the office for Skubal, putting the Tigers just a game away from advancing and finally putting the 2025 Guardians in their rearview.
