Jason Roy on skipping IPL 2024: 'Had to put my mindset and body first'

A taxing few months and a desire to spend time with family led to the decision to sit out of KKR’s campaign, the opener said

ESPNcricinfo staff11-Apr-2024Jason Roy has revealed that he opted out of the ongoing IPL 2024 with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to put his “mindset and body” first.Roy had joined KKR in 2023 for INR 2.8 crore (US$341,000 approx.) as an injury replacement. After scoring 285 runs at an average of 35.62 and strike rate of 151.59, he was due to return this season until he pulled out at the start of March citing personal reasons. He was subsequently replaced by England and Lancashire batter Phil Salt.It has been a challenging 18 months for Roy. Having missed out on selection for England’s T20 World Cup squad in 2022, he endured the same fate last October when he did not make the squad for the defence of the 50-over title he was integral to in 2019. He also went undrafted for this year’s Hundred following his release from 2023 champions Oval Invincibles. Last May, Roy had terminated his ECB incremental contract to play the inaugural season of Major League Cricket (MLC).After finishing the year in the T10 for Chennai Braves, Roy started 2024 in the SA20 for Durban’s Super Giants before playing two ILT20 games for Abu Dhabi Knight Riders. Five days later, he embarked on a ten-match stint with Quetta Gladiators in the PSL.

“I’ve not just woken up one morning and thought, ‘you know what – I actually don’t feel like getting on that flight to India’. A lot of thought has gone into it, and yeah, it’s become far easier to talk about and a far easier decision”Jason Roy

Speaking on the latest podcast, Roy explained that a taxing second half of the winter and a desire to spend quality time at home with his family led to the decision to sit out this edition of the IPL.”Missing this year’s IPL was a huge decision, I think,” Roy said. “KKR put so much trust in me by retaining me after a decent year last year and being available for them throughout the year and all the other competitions, you know, I felt like I owe them a huge amount. It was a very big decision, but a decision I came to just because it was my daughter’s fifth birthday as soon as our first game was, there were a few things going on, I was quite tired after the start of my year.”I’ve come off the back of not a huge amount of cricket, so the last couple of months have really taken it out of me. And so I was very honest to KKR and we’ve got a fantastic relationship, so we were able to come to an agreement and stuff like that on why I wasn’t coming. They completely understood so I’m very grateful to them for that. But I just had to put myself first, you know, just mindset and body.”Roy’s withdrawal was also informed by a period two years ago in which he found himself “in a dark place”, which resulted in him taking an indefinite break from the game and missing IPL 2022 with Gujarat Titans. It was around this time – in March of that year – that the 33-year-old was reprimanded by the ECB for “conducting himself in a manner which may be prejudicial to the interests of cricket or which may bring the game of cricket, the ECB and himself into disrepute”. Roy, who admitted to the charge, was fined £2,500 and handed a suspended two-match ban.Jason Roy wasn’t selected by England for the defence of the 50-over title he was integral to in 2019•Getty Images”A couple of years ago, I went through an extremely bad patch with my mindset,” he said. “With my mental health and stuff, and I pulled out of the IPL when I was signed with Gujarat, and you know that was for a completely different reason. That was because I was in a dark place, I was in a shocking headspace, and it was sort of my own doing.”I kind of said to myself, ‘I’m okay, I’m okay’, and I kept going, and I kept playing, and I stayed away from home. And you know, I ended up just shooting myself in the foot. This year and from that point, I basically said to myself, I’m just going to listen to my head, listen to my heart and figure it out from there on in.”That was a huge learning curve for me, to be able to make decisions like I have this year, you know, and it can look a certain way. But it’s nothing to do with anyone else, it’s absolutely nothing to do with anyone else.”It’s your decision – I’ve got a young family, I’m a grown man and I’ve made the decision off the back of a lot of thoughts. I’ve not just woken up one morning and thought, ‘You know what – I actually don’t feel like getting on that flight to India’. A lot of thought has gone into it, and yeah, it’s become far easier to talk about and a far easier decision, just because you know, especially from past experiences, what that can do to you.”

Rajasthan Royals' Adam Zampa pulls out of IPL 2024

Adam Zampa has pulled out of the IPL at short notice because of personal reasons.Zampa had been retained by Rajasthan Royals ahead of December’s auction in Dubai on a contract worth INR 1.5 crore (A$273,000 approx.), but his manager confirmed to ESPNcricinfo on Thursday that he will play no part in IPL 2024.He has a young family at home and has had a busy recent schedule, playing in the BBL as well as Australia’s white-ball series against India, West Indies and New Zealand since the end of last year’s ODI World Cup in India.Related

ChatIPL – An AI-powered peek at the league that defies logic

Royals boast big Indian names, but lack of allrounders could prove costly

Royals have two of India’s best spinners in their squad in R Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal but Zampa still made six appearances in the 2023 season. He took eight wickets at 23.50 with an economy rate of 8.54, including figures of 3 for 22 in a home victory over Chennai Super Kings.Zampa has previously represented Royal Challengers Bengaluru (then Royal Challengere Bangalore) and the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant at the IPL, taking 29 wickets in his 20 appearances in the tournament, spread across four different seasons.Royals have also lost Prasidh Krishna from their bowling attack in recent weeks, after he was ruled out for the season following a quadriceps surgery. Prasidh’s injury prompted Manoj Badale, the Royals’ co-owner, to suggest that the franchises could work more closely with the BCCI’s medical department this week.”There’s always areas you’d like to keep pushing [the BCCI] on,” Badale told the Sky Sports Cricket Podcast. “Clearly, the medical side of it is really important, given how much these players are being asked to play across formats.”We’re without Prasidh Krishna again this season and that’s tough as a franchise, when you’ve bet 7-8% of your entire player spend on a particular player and then that player is unavailable for the whole tournament, that hurts you. The medical side is an area where we’re trying to work much harder.”Royals are yet to announce a replacement player for either Prasidh or Zampa.

Batters must come to the party for CSK against powerplay bosses KKR

Match details

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) vs Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)
Chennai, 7.30pm IST (1400 GMT)

Big picture – A changing Chepauk

The focus at CSK seems to have shifted this year. A team that had relied on their spinners and the way their former captain used them to suffocate oppositions has, so far, played its home games in conditions where the ball isn’t even stopping on the pitch, let alone turn off it. In the two matches it has hosted in IPL 2024, Chepauk has offered 18 wickets at an average of 28 to the fast bowlers, but only four at an average of 47 to the slow bowlers. CSK’s share in those wickets: 13 for the quicks and zip, nada, nothing for the spinners.Related

  • Angkrish Raghuvanshi has limitations, but he won't let them come in his way

  • Ruturaj Gaikwad, the anchor at the top weighing CSK down

  • Which IPL team has made the best use of the Impact Player rule?

KKR won’t mind that things are shaping up that way because if there is opportunity to hit through the line of the ball, they have the best line-up to exploit it, starting with Sunil Narine, who has responded with a big shot to 44 of the 65 balls he’s faced. That isn’t just aggression. That’s addiction. Having previously been forced to push him down the order to accommodate Venkatesh Iyer, KKR have gone back to their pinch-hitter to give them those high-impact starts and he hasn’t disappointed.CSK, after two losses on the road, will be wary of the threat they face. Their batters will once again bear the responsibility of getting a par-plus total, like they did against Gujarat Titans, which brings their wildcards into the picture. Shivam Dube is excelling in his role as spin-hitter again with a sky-high strike rate of 214 – only Abhishek Sharma (231) has gone better (minimum 18 balls faced). But the rest of them – Rachin Ravindra, who has the potential to do the Narine job for CSK, Ajinkya Rahane, whose transformation continues to surprise, and Daryl Mitchell, who is having a slowish start to the season – have work to do.

Team news and Impact Player strategy

Chennai Super Kings
Matheesha Pathirana was doing a little bit of bowling on Sunday, with CSK bowling consultant Eric Simons saying he was left out of the last game as a precaution. It is still unclear, though, if he is ready to play on Monday. Ditto for Mustafizur Rahman, who had to leave for home to work on getting a US visa, but is understood to be on his way to India and should link up with the team soon. Moeen Ali could keep his place given he hits Narine at a strike rate of 181 in the IPL (20 off 11 balls, two dismissals) and offers an offspin option against the left-hand batters of KKR.Likely XII: 1 Ruturaj Gaikwad (capt), 2 Rachin Ravindra, 3 Ajinkya Rahane, 4 Shivam Dube, 5 Daryl Mitchell, 6 Moeen Ali, 7 Ravindra Jadeja, 8 MS Dhoni (wk), 9 Deepak Chahar, 10 Tushar Deshpande, 11 Mukesh Chaudhary/Shardul Thakur, 12 Maheesh Theekshana/Mustafizur Rahman1:07

Raghuvanshi after cracking 54 off 27 balls: ‘I just backed my instincts’

Kolkata Knight RIders
Nitish Rana, who hasn’t played since KKR’s opening game, tweeted that he “can’t wait to get on the field”, so he might be in line for a return. Harshit Rana, though, who didn’t bowl in their last match despite being in the XI, arrived in Chennai with his arm in a sling. Angkrish Raghuvanshi might continue to be their Impact Player, swapping in or out for a bowler.Likely XII: 1 Phil Salt (wk), 2 Sunil Narine, 3 Venkatesh Iyer, 4 Shreyas Iyer (capt), 5 Angkrish Raghuvanshi/Nitish Rana, 6 Andre Russell, 7 Rinku Singh, 8 Ramandeep Singh, 9 Mitchell Starc, 10 Harshit Rana/Vaibhav Arora, 11 Varun Chakravarthy, 12 Anukul Roy/Suyash Sharma

In the spotlight – Andre Russell vs CSK

Andre Russell is the second-quickest-scoring batter so far in this IPL with a strike rate of 239. He loves playing against CSK. Four of his 11 IPL fifties have come against them. He is in form. He is feeling fit. And he is on a mission to make that West Indies team for the home World Cup. Taking him down is going to be hard work.CSK’s best option to deal with him is Pathirana, if he’s fit (1 run off 3 balls, one dismissal). But keep an eye on Ravindra Jadeja as well. His head-to-head with Russell in the IPL is 32 runs in 25 balls.

Pitch and conditions

The average first-innings score at Chepauk in IPL 2024 is 189, which is a serious increase from where it was (164) in 21 matches across the previous three years. So strap in and get ready for some runs.Expect MS Dhoni to be the centre of attention at Chepauk – not for the first time, not for the last time•BCCI

Stats that matter – Power-hitting masterclass on the cards

  • KKR have been bossing it in the powerplay this year, going at 12 an over. Only Sunrisers Hyderabad (11.66) are getting anywhere close to the kind of explosive batting ability they have shown in the first six overs. Their opening partnership, which was trundling along at a strike rate of 109 and 131 in the last two years, is flying now. Narine and Phil Salt have a strike rate of 172 together.
  • CSK, though, will hope that they can make home advantage count. They have won nine of the 13 games between these two sides at Chepauk.
  • Some of the best death-overs (17-20) batters in the IPL will be on show tomorrow. Rinku Singh (26) is two away from beating Shimron Hetmyer (27) as the best six-hitter in this phase of play since IPL 2022. MS Dhoni (20) and Russell (18) are not too far behind either.
  • In light of that, CSK would dearly love Pathirana to be back starting for them. He has an economy rate of 8.5 in the back-end – only Jasprit Bumrah (7.53) and Mohsin Khan (7.57) go better (minimum 24 balls bowled). Pathirana looks to be their best option to contain a KKR line-up that has power where it counts most.

Quotes

“We aren’t overly concerned about Ruturaj. He’s a quality cricketer. It hasn’t worked out but that’s the nature of high-octane cricket. You have to go out there and play with a degree of confidence. You have to go out and play with a degree of risk-taking and it’ll come. He’s that kind of a person, he’s been really calm and focused on what he wants to do and there’s not much concern in that respect.”
“I feel a lot of teams and franchises today want power players who can hit boundaries and sixes which is why you see a lot of that. But I feel the game still revolves around players who can accumulate runs like a Virat Kohli. But eventually this game is about playing with a higher strike rate, whether that be singles, doubles or fours, that’s your formula to success and I feel it’s a very individual thing.”

'F*ck your mother' – Lamine Yamal subjected to shocking verbal attack from World Cup winner as Barcelona & Spain wonderkid is called out for 'annoying' Cristiano Ronaldo interaction

Lamine Yamal has been the subject of a foul-mouthed tirade by ex-France star Adil Rami, who says he "can't stand" the Barcelona and Spain sensation.

Yamal has rocketed to worldwide fame and respect for his blistering performances for club and country. After playing a key role in Spain's Euro 2024 success, he enjoyed a stellar season as Barcelona claimed the domestic treble and is being touted as a possible Ballon d'Or winner this year. In the 2024-25 season, Yamal played 55 official matches, scoring 18 goals and providing 25 assists across all competitions for the Blaugrana.

The love for the 18-year-old is not universal, though, as 2018 World Cup winner Rami went on a rant about him, including an attack on the player's mother as he expressed his frustration.

"It's been two months, and as a human being, I can't stand him anymore. That's clear. I don't give a damn, guys. If some people are happy, unhappy, Barca fans, Lamine Yamal fans… I don't give a damn. I'm telling you the truth. Football-wise, I've got nothing to say. He's a cracker and he'll definitely win Ballons d'Or, European Cups and everything else you want. But as a human being, f*ck your mother. That's clear," said the former Marseille player said to .

YAMAL'S RONALDO INTERACTION

Rami's frustration with Yamal appears to stem from seeing the teenager shake hands with Cristiano Ronaldo during the Nations League final between Spain and Portugal, which was won by the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

"The way he shook Cristiano Ronaldo's hand also annoyed me. That's how it started. I didn't like the videos he made afterwards where he talked about him," added the former French international.

The Frenchman also mentions the young Spaniard's dress sense, his ostentatious style, nightlife behaviour and reported relationships with older women.

"Seeing him doing his crazy thing with his shorts down, I taught you why guys do that and where it comes from. I'll say it again, the whole thing with the shorts down comes from prisons in the United States and Mexico, it was the guy who wanted to get 'f*cked'. But there are things that bother me. He's throwing parties and people are already talking about them. Just wait, you son of a bitch. He shows up, takes the number 10 spot and puts on big bling with big diamonds. He thinks he's American. It's annoying," Rami said angrily.

While Rami rants about Yamal, the Ballon d'Or candidate is in pre-season training as Barcelona look to prepare to defend their La Liga title and aim to battle for the Champions League crown this season after they secured La Liga, Copa del Rey and Supercopa de Espana trophies last season. What makes the upcoming season special is that Yamal officially took on the iconic No. 10 jersey. This prestigious number, previously worn by club legends like Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho and Diego Maradona, signifies the club's immense faith in the young talent. Yamal said he aims to forge his own path while honouring the legacy associated with the shirt.

'Gloomy rabbit warren' – Sir Jim Ratcliffe hails new state-of-the-art Carrington redevelopment and admits Man Utd's training facilities used to be bleak

Sir Jim Ratcliffe says he is "proud" of Manchester United's newly redeveloped training ground, as previously it looked like a "gloomy rabbit warren".

Man Utd training ground redevelopedRatcliffe thrilled at how Carrington now looksUsed to be a "gloomy rabbit warren"Follow GOAL on WhatsApp! 🟢📱WHAT HAPPENED?

On Friday, United unveiled what the Carrington Training Complex looked like after a £50 million ($67m) redevelopment that has taken more than a year to complete. Minority owner Ratcliffe was particularly pleased with how the state-of-the-art facility looked and hopes this is part of a bigger effort to get the club back to the top of the game in the not-so-distant future.

AdvertisementWHAT RATCLIFFE SAID

He said: "This is one of the most recognised brands in the world, it stands shoulder to shoulder with Coca-Cola and Apple. The club has to compete at the highest level that is appropriate to the size and history of the club. While a world-class training facility won’t take us to that position alone, it is one of the key ingredients in the modern facility. Now we have one. When I first came to Carrington two years ago, we had a presentation here. It was clear then. It is an excellent facility. It was (leading edge), I am sure in 2000, but 25 years later it wasn’t quite at the level it needed to be for one of the top four or five clubs in the world. It was the first big decision when we arrived in the first quarter of 2024, to invest in this training facility. There were lots of naysayers, who said that wouldn’t be done in 12 months, it will make the training facility, but I am pleased to say the project has come in on budget and on time. Thanks to Collette [Roche], Omar [Berrada], and the team. Thank you to Jason [Wilcox], Ruben [Amorim], and the technical staff for your many, many influences, which kept coming; eventually, I had to say stop. Thank you to Foster and Partners. Downstairs, there weren’t many windows on the ground floor. It felt like you were in a hospital in the basement. It was a slightly gloomy place, a gloomy rabbit warren. Now it is open, fresh, quite modern. It encourages interaction. That is what we needed. Thanks to Ruben and the sports staff for being very adaptable over the last 12 months. Had to train in not the ideal situations, in a difficult year. Had to put up with the training facilities. Finally, to Ruben, Bruno [Fernandes], and the players, I hope you enjoy your new home, and I hope it takes Manchester United where Manchester United needs to go. We should all be very proud of this new facility."

Getty ImagesTHE BIGGER PICTURE

Ratcliffe is eager to see United return to their former glory but on the pitch, they are a long way from that. However, having a world-class training ground is a step in the right direction. This may mean little, though, if Ruben Amorim's team have another season like the one they had in 2024-25.

WHAT NEXT?

Aside from training ground developments, United round off their pre-season campaign against Fiorentina on Saturday before their Premier League season gets underway at home to Arsenal on August 17.

Kuldeep, Mukesh, openers seal crucial win for Capitals

Sanju Samson’s 46-ball 86 went in vain as Delhi Capitals’ 221 proved to be too much for Rajasthan Royals to chase. Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed shared six wickets between them as DC successfully defended their total after being asked to bat, subjecting RR to their second defeat on the trot.Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abishek Porel set up DC’s batting effort as they both hit rapid half-centuries.R Ashwin, who had come into the game with two wickets in the season, returned a three-wicket haul to slow DC down, but Tristan Stubbs once again provided the hosts with a powerful finish to take them to a total beyond RR’s reach.

Fraser-McGurk, Porel bedazzle

Fraser-McGurk walked in to bat with an average of 57.33 and strike rate close to 300 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. To stop him, Trent Boult started from around the wicket to try and keep him quiet. For one over, it worked. But when Boult returned for his second over, Fraser-McGurk met him with a loft down the ground for six before hitting him for two more fours in a 15-run over. He then tore into Avesh Khan, starting his first over with three consecutive fours and finishing it by going 6, 4, 6 to bring up his half-century off 19 deliveries.Ashwin struck in the final over of the powerplay when Fraser-McGurk thrashed a low full toss straight to cover. Shai Hope was then run-out at the non-striker’s end as Sandeep Sharma got a hand to deflect Porel’s straight drive on to the stumps. But Porel did not let DC’s momentum slip, racing to a 28-ball half-century of his own. He took on Riyan Parag and Yuzvendra Chahal to keep the boundaries coming. Even after Axar Patel fell in the tenth over, Porel took 27 runs off the next two overs. But in the 13th, he became Ashwin’s third victim of the night.

Stubbs provides the finish

When Rishabh Pant fell to Yuzvendra Chahal in the 14th over, DC faced a slowdown as Stubbs began slowly. Between the 14th and 17th overs, DC added just 22 runs with Stubbs on eight off 11 balls. But Stubbs changed it around when he took on Chahal in the spinner’s final over. His assortment of sweeps helped take 16 run off Chahal’s final over.Gulbadin Naib was out to Boult next over, but Impact Player Rasikh Salam hit two scoops to take DC past the 200 mark. Stubbs then hit back-to-back sixes to start the final over to ensure DC finished beyond 220.

Samson stands up to DC’s bowlers

Khaleel Ahmed had Yashasvi Jaiswal miscuing to mid-off in the first over of the chase, but Samson kept motoring on in the powerplay. Khaleel, Ishant Sharma and Mukesh all bore the brunt of Samson’s assault as he raced to 41 off 16. His runs helped RR finish on a strong 67 for 2 after six overs, losing Jos Buttler to Axar in the penultimate ball of the powerplay.Kuldeep then gave away just 11 runs off his first two overs as Samson and Parag trudged along in a 36-run stand that came off 31 balls. Salam’s slower ball ended the partnership when he castled the in-form Parag for 27.Samson had made just eight runs off nine balls in the partnership with Parag, and the dismissal appeared to bring out a sense of urgency in the RR captain. A six off a free-hit against Kuldeep that brought up his half-century was followed by two sixes and a four off the next over, bowled by Salam. A 17-run over off Ishant was followed by a wayward one from Khaleel, who bowled four wides in a row.But with the momentum just shifting towards RR, Mukesh had Samson hole out. Hope took a catch running to his left from long-on and almost tripped himself on to the boundary rope. After the third umpire confirmed that it was indeed out, Samson went to the umpire in protest but had to keep walking.

Kuldeep wraps it up

With RR still ending 60 off 26 balls, Shubham Dubey’s big shots off Khaleel briefly gave them hope, but Kuldeep’s double-wicket 18th over gave a knockout blow.He first had Donovan Ferreira trapped lbw off a skiddy delivery that was given not-out initially. Then, he tossed up his final ball of the spell wide outside off stump, and Ashwin miscued his slog. He finished with 2 for 25 in four overs, leaving RR needing 37 off the last 12.Salam and Mukesh closed it out, and DC moved to fifth on the points table with their third home win in a row.

John Simpson, Cheteshwar Pujara leave Middlesex facing a mountain

Record-breaking partnership drives visitors into the ascendancy at Lord’s

ECB Reporters Network25-May-2024John Simpson and Cheteshwar Pujara completed centuries on a day when Sussex re-wrote their record books not once but twice as they continued to dominate this Vitality County Championship clash with hosts Middlesex at Lord’s.Simpson, who made 10 centuries in 15 years with the Seaxes, got the second of his short tenure as Sussex skipper, eventually making 167 while Pujara posted 129 in a score of 554 for 9 that eclipsed their previous best against the hosts of 550 for 9 at Hove in 1980.Simpson and Pujara shared a stand of 223 for the fifth wicket to erase the previous best against Middlesex of 216 by Kepler Wessels and Colin Wells in that same match 34 years ago.Middlesex for whom Ethan Bamber took 3 for 114, lost Mark Stoneman early in their reply, but Sam Robson, unbeaten on 40 and Max Holden saw them through to stumps at 62 for 1 without further alarm. They will require a further 343 on day three to avoid the follow-on.Resuming on 295 for 4, Sussex were obviously conscious of head coach Paul Farbrace’s words at close the night before about not undoing the good work of day one as Pujara and Simpson adopted a cautious approach, so much so, only eight runs came in the first 10 overs.Pujara, in the last game of his latest stint at Hove, 91 not out overnight, took 43 minutes to add to his score, though in truth he never looked ruffled by his lack of progress. The Indian Test veteran won the race to 100, pulling a short ball from Henry Brookes to the fence behind square, but with three overs to go until the 110-over cut-off for bonus points, the visitors were still some way short of 350.The fact they got there was down to Simpson, who skated through the 90s with a trio of boundaries, two back past the bowler and a third caressed deliciously through extra cover to take him to his 12th first-class century. Even so, Sussex needed a no-ball from Brookes off what should have been the final ball of the 110th to glean the third batting bonus-point.The efforts of Wessels and Wells were consigned to history shortly before lunch, but the stand ended within four balls of the resumption, Pujara hitting a full toss from Nathan Fernandes straight into the hands of Stoneman at mid-wicket.If we were expecting a full-on push towards a declaration it didn’t materialise in an afternoon which meandered along with a distinct lack of tempo.Fynn Hudson-Prentice tried to press the go button only to get too far leg-side of a long-hop from Luke Hollman and feather it through to Jack Davies. As Middlesex adopted a defensive pose in the field, daring Sussex to force the pace, Simpson, who survived playing a Hollman delivery into his helmet, continued his steady accumulation to pass 150.He fell to almost his first attempt at something unorthodox, Bamber pegging back his leg stump after he missed an attempted scoop.Danny Lamb tried nothing as extravagant in a painstaking 49 before chipping one back to the persevering Hollman an act which finally provoked a declaration.Middlesex dragged tired bodies and minds off the field and the suspicion was that England seamer Ollie Robinson – who’d made a sprightly unbeaten 22 – and Division Two’s leading wicket taker at the start of the round, Jayden Seales, would prove to be a tricky prospect in the 19 overs that remained. Robinson, under pressure for his Test place against West Indies in July, didn’t wait long to make his case. The seamer, bowling from the Pavilion End beat the outside edge of Stoneman’s bat four times in one over before getting the nick in his next to send the former England opener packing for four.
