Tottenham: Spurs Want To Sign Rapid £40M Star For Ange

Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Leicester City forward Harvey Barnes for new manager Ange Postecoglou, according to reports.

Who could Spurs sign this summer?

Spurs supporters have finally seen their club's long, drawn out manager search come to an end with former Celtic boss Postecoglou set to start work on July 1.

The Australian, fresh off the back of a domestic treble win at Parkhead, is tasked with the almighty challenge of transforming Tottenham into a major force again.

“Ange brings a positive mentality and a fast, attacking style of play," said chairman Daniel Levy upon his appointment."He has a strong track record of developing players and an understanding of the importance of the link from the academy – everything that is important to our Club. We are excited to have Ange join us as we prepare for the season ahead."

Spurs missed out on European football for the 2023/2024 campaign, making the summer transfer market a challenge both financially and in terms of attracting star players.

However, reports suggest that the north Londoners and Levy are still determined to back Postecoglou, with the club ready to rival Newcastle for Leicester City star James Maddison.

According to The Times, however, Maddison isn't the only player being targeted from the King Power Stadium. Indeed, their forward Barnes is also wanted at Spurs, with Levy and co apparently being "keen" to sign him.

As well as the aforementioned duo, Southampton star James Ward-Prowse is another relegated star who is attracting interest.

Who is Harvey Barnes?

The Englishman, who is expected to cost around £40 million this summer, has been revered for his speed and stood out as one of Leicester's star players last season.

As per WhoScored, Barnes finished 2022/2023 as Leicester's top goalscorer in the Premier League with 13 – backing how he could inject some real threat into Tottenham's forward line.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, commenting on the 25-year-old in 2021, even heralded him as an "unbelievable player".

"They do good business, full-back, centre-half, all these things," said Klopp on Leicester at the time."Up front, [Marc] Albrighton, looks like he doesn’t get older, [Jamie] Vardy the same."Barnes is probably one of the biggest talents, I’m not sure if he is respected or appreciated as much as he should be, he is an unbelievable player to be honest, a proper Leicester product."

Given he is likely to want an immediate return to the top flight, ir is reasonable to believe he could also be open to joining Tottenham.

Hearts Could Appoint Their Own Version Of Graham Potter

Hearts finished fourth in the Premiership last season, securing another crack at European football, however, question marks remain over who will be leading the side once the campaign begins.

Interim boss Steven Naismith guided the club to just two wins from six games following the sacking of Robbie Nielson in April, and he failed to win either of his Edinburgh derby ties.

Last week, the Daily Record claimed that the former Scotland international was set to be appointed as the manager on a permanent basis, however, Hearts have since held talks with current Hammarby coach Marti Cifuentes, and he remains someone who is under consideration for the role.

He certainly has slightly more experience than Naismith and judging by his results during his role in charge of the Swedish club, Cifuentes could potentially be Hearts’ own version of Graham Potter.

Could Hearts appoint Marti Cifuentes?

The 40-year-old is facing a tough second season at Hammarby following his impressive debut campaign, where he led the side to third in the league while coming up just short in the Swedish Cup, however, it could take a compensation fee in order to secure the Spaniard as their new manager.

The chief executive of the side, Richard von Yxkull, wants Cifuentes to stay despite fan unrest among the support, saying: "We have 100 per cent confidence in him, and we want to keep him as our head coach. If we were to end up in negotiation with another club, then yes. He is under contract with us."

Potter built up his reputation in Sweden, leading Ostersund to the Swedish Cup and into Europe during a seven-year spell, before breaking into the Premier League with Brighton and Hove Albion – following a stint at Swansea City – and then Chelsea, although he was sacked following just six months in charge.

Cifuentes has also forged his career in Scandinavia, taking charge of Sandefjord and Aalborg BK before landing the top job at Hammarby, where he has averaged 1.81 points per match, a similar figure to Potter during his spell in Sweden, who achieved 1.71 points per game, albeit playing more matches.

Steven Naismith

Naismith would be the cheap option for Hearts, however, taking a risk on a coach such as Cifuentes could very well pay dividends, especially as they aim to reach the Europa Conference League group stage for the second year in a row.

Potter’s career took off once he landed in England and Cifuentes could certainly follow in his footsteps should Hearts make their move for the 40-year-old, and he’d be an upgrade on Naismith in the process.

Tottenham Hotspur Set To Make Offer For "Very Talented" £1.2m Ace

Tottenham Hotspur are set to make an offer for Southampton left-back Thierry Small, having previously failed with an £800k bid during the January transfer window, according to a report from Football Insider.

Who is Thierry Small?

Small came through the youth ranks at West Bromwich Albion and Everton, before becoming the Toffees' youngest player in history when he made his first-team debut against Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup back in January 2021.

Later that year, the left-back completed a move to Southampton, signing a three-year professional contract with the club, however, he has so far made just one appearance in the first team, having spent time out on loan at St Mirren this season.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham made a bid of £800k for the 18-year-old during the January transfer window, which was rejected by the Saints, who were holding out for £1.2m, but they are now set to return with a new bid.

Spurs have let the youngster and his representatives know they plan to come back to the table with another offer this summer, but they face competition for his signature from Rangers, who have been in contact with Southampton. St Mirren are also keen on another loan deal, as the starlet has established himself as a first-team regular this season.

Should Tottenham sign Small?

Given his lack of first-team experience, the Englishman is certainly a signing for the future, rather than someone who could make an immediate impact for Tottenham, however, there is plenty of evidence he could become an important player in the future.

Hailed as "very talented" by members of the media, the former Everton man has already got a taste of first-team football with St Mirren, while he has also been very impressive for Southampton at youth level.

dejan-kulusevski-tottenham-hotspur

In 17 Premier League 2 games last season, the Solihull-born full-back scored four goals and registered one assist, showcasing his ability on the front foot, and earning himself an England call-up, having now made three appearances for the U18s.

It remains to be seen whether Small fulfils his potential, but he is showing very promising signs at such a young age, and he is definitely worth taking a risk on, considering Southampton's asking price is likely to be around the £1.2m mark.

Sabbir Rahman will be fit for the second Test against England, which begins on October 28, according to Bangladesh physio Bayjidul Islam. Sabbir will join training at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Thursday to prepare for the game.Sabbir, who debuted in the first Test in Chittagong and made a half-century during the chase, had a fever throughout the match. He also went off the field during England’s second innings, having been hit in the head while batting. Then, upon arrival in Dhaka, Sabbir was taken to the Apollo Hospital where he underwent an endoscopy on Wednesday because of a stomach pain that was not subsiding. Bayjid said that it was an ulcer, but it was nothing serious.”Sabbir had been suffering from gastric-related problems for quite some time,” Bayjidul said. “He had stomach pain, so we kept him under observation in Chittagong where he visited a doctor. There had been some findings but when he underwent the endoscopy at the Apollo Hospital, there wasn’t anything serious in it.”It is a normal gastric problem – peptic ulcer. The doctor has advised him for some dietary changes. Since he did the endoscopy today, he has been told to take the day off. He can start training from tomorrow. The good news is that the pain has also reduced. He will get better.”The Bangladesh selectors had called up Mosaddek Hossain as cover for the ill Sabbir.

Leeds United Eyeing 47-Year-Old As New Manager

Leeds United are considering FC Lorient boss Regis Le Bris as a candidate to be their new manager, according to an intriguing new update.

Who are Leeds' manager targets?

The search to be the Whites' next man in the Elland Road dugout is ongoing, with a host of name already being thrown into the mix in recent days.

Steven Gerrard and Brendan Rodgers are both seen as contenders to come in and turn Leeds' fortunes around, having been sacked by Aston Villa and Leicester City earlier this season, while current West Brom boss Carlos Corberan is also seen as a potential option.

It has been a rocky time of things at the club over the past 12 months or so, with three managers losing their jobs in the space of one season, as well as off-field matters being dominated by 49ers Enterprises' potential takeover.

Now, a new name has been chucked into the hat when it comes to Leeds' next manager, with the individual in question not as big a name as some of those mentioned.

Could Le Bris be Whites' next boss?

According to Le Telegramme [via Sport Witness], Le Bris has emerged as a target for the Whites, as they look to fill the void left by Sam Allardyce, who parted ways with the club last week. Having taken charge of Lorient last year, he performed impressive with them, guiding them to a 10th-place finish in Ligue 1.

The 47-year-old is "already rousing interest" from both Leeds and OGC Nice, and he is "being ambitious" on a personal level, with a move away from Lorient possibly appealing to him, following some new claims regarding his future:

"There are discussions at the moment… I really want to take advantage of the moment in relation to everything that we have been through and close the season in the best possible way. Then we will think about the future in the next few days."

Le Bris may be a relative unknown to some of those who don't follow Ligue 1 closely, but he is being considered an option for a reason, and could be an interesting appointment.

He is a manager who focuses on a direct style of play, rather than a possession-based one, with the idea to get the ball into the penalty area as soon as possible. They do keep the ball from deep, however, in order to tempt opponents into pressing them, so it could make for exciting football at Elland Road.

Whether Leeds decide to go for Le Bris over a bigger name remains to be seen, but it is encouraging to see them thinking outside the box.

Tottenham: Ange "Driving" Spurs Move For "Unplayable" Star

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou is personally "driving" a Spurs move for Leicester City playmaker James Maddison, according to reports.

Who could Spurs sign this summer?

As the transfer window officially opens for business today, the time for a major Spurs rebuild is now upon us, with many players being tipped to potentially leave or come through the door.

Postecoglou's arrival marks the return of attacking football and a 4-3-3 formation, meaning chairman Daniel Levy must now scour for players who suit his system.

Of the players who could depart N17, there are many, with over 11 players being linked to leaving. Indeed, Hugo Lloris, Ivan Perisic, Davinson Sanchez, Ryan Sessegnon, Lenglet, Eric Dier and Ben Davies have all been tipped to potentially exit, while Spurs are also apparently planning to offload Giovani Lo Celso, Sergio Reguilon and Harry Winks (The Telegraph).

Meanwhile, it is believed Postecoglou has green-lit plans to sign a new centre-back, with reports suggesting Spurs are also hunting for a new goalkeeper to succeed Lloris. Maddison, who looks set to leave Leicester following their relegation from the top flight, is a firm transfer target as well.

james-maddison-newcastle-united-transfer-news-opinion-premier-league

The Lilywhites, according to reports, are contending with Eddie Howe's Newcastle for the England international with reliable journalist Nizaar Kinsella of The Evening Standard sharing an update.

According to his information, while the Magpies are confident of beating Spurs to Maddison, Postecoglou is personally "driving" a move to bring him to Hotspur Way.

The Foxes will apparently demand around £45m and he is set to be sold after Leicester's drop to the Championship, with Spurs targeting a creative playmaker this summer.

Postecoglou has given his green-light to moving for Maddison, but with Newcastle now "frontrunners", Spurs could face a tougher task of signing him.

Who is James Maddison?

The Three Lions ace was, by some distance, Leicester's best player last season.

According to WhoScored, he stood out as their best-performing player by average match rating, all whilst totalling an impressive 19 goal contributions in the league alone (10 goals, nine assists).

Maddison also averaged more attempts at goal and key passes made per 90 than any other Leicester player, highlighting why Postecoglou is so keen to bring him to north London.

Journalist Josh Bunting, taking to Twitter last year, heaped praise on the 26-year-old – claiming he can be "unplayable" when at his very best.

Whoever wins the race for Maddison will surely have a real player on their hands.

Newcastle Make Approach To Sign "Frightening" £68m Forward

Newcastle United have made contact regarding a deal to sign Barcelona forward Raphinha this summer, according to reports.

Is Raphinha leaving Barcelona?

The Brazilian international only swapped the Premier League for La Liga last summer when he arrived at Camp Nou in a big-money move from Leeds United. He’s made 50 appearances in Catalonia to date, but there's a chance he could already be hitting the road once again.

Xavi’s right-sided winger still has another four years remaining on his contract, but after establishing himself as the manager’s joint second top-performing offensive player during his debut season, is attracting interest ahead of the upcoming window, in particular from St. James’ Park.

Speaking on his Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano revealed last month that the Magpies, alongside top-flight rivals Chelsea, both hold an “interest” in the 26-year-old, but it sounds like it’s Eddie Howe who is the first to make an official move.

Are Newcastle signing Raphinha?

According to Spanish outlet Sport (via Sport Witness), Newcastle have “already made a first approach” to enquire about a deal for the man called a "phenomenon" by his international teammates. Barcelona’s attacker is “keen to continue” where he is, but it’s stated that the northeast outfit will “insist” on signing the player regardless of his stance.

The Magpies have “positioned themselves” and “would be willing to pay a fee” to bring him to St. James’ Park. The Blaugrana have made it clear he could “only leave” if they received an offer in excess of €80m (£68m), and the opportunity to play in the Champions League could end up “convincing” him to join.

Barcelona forward Raphinha.

Should PIF splash the cash on Raphinha?

Newcastle will already know what Raphinha is capable of having played against him several times during his spell at Leeds, where he was dubbed “frightening” by members of the media, and with that impressive form having continued since joining Barcelona, PIF should definitely test the waters by making an offer.

Barca’s left-footed gem, who is represented by D20 Sports, clocked up 14 goal contributions (seven goals and the same number of assists) in 36 La Liga appearances last season, with this high standard of displays seeing him collect six man-of-the-match awards.

The World Cup participant was also a major threat when providing for his fellow teammates having recorded 172 crosses and 117 shot-creating actions, which were both higher than any other member of his squad, as per FBRef, so should he put pen to paper in the near future, he would only improve Howe’s attacking ranks even further.

Victoria chase 201 after Holland four-for

Set 201 for victory, Victoria reached 0 for 36 at stumps on the third day against South Australia at the MCG

ESPNcricinfo staff28-Nov-2016
ScorecardJon Holland picked up 4 for 25 (file photo)•Getty ImagesVictoria’s Jon Holland and Marcus Stoinis sparked a South Australia collapse that gave the Bushrangers the upper hand on the third day at the MCG. The Redbacks had earned a first-innings advantage but their second-innings capitulation for 162 left Victoria chasing 201 for victory, and by stumps they were already 0 for 36, with Marcus Harris on 19 and Travis Dean on 17.The day had started with Victoria on 6 for 263 in reply to South Australia’s 405, and the lower order rallied to add 104 for the loss of the final four wickets. Although wicketkeeper Sam Harper missed the chance for a maiden first-class century when he was bowled by Adam Zampa for 80, late runs from Scott Boland (30), Holland (28 not out) and Chris Tremain (20) were valuable.South Australia began reasonably well in their second innings and reached 3 for 107 before the collapse – they lost their last seven wickets for 55 runs. Holland turned one sharply in to bowl the left-hander Jake Lehmann for 28 and then he and Stoinis (3 for 45) ran through much of the rest of the order. The South Australia captain Travis Head top scored for the second time in the match, adding 52 to his first-innings 130, before he became the final victim for Holland, who finished with 4 for 25. Callum Ferguson ended his run of single-figure scores but managed only 24 before he was lbw to Stoinis.
