Crystal Palace fans troubled by Carl Jenkinson link

[ad_pod ]

Plenty of Crystal Palace fans have taken to social media to raise concerns over a reported £5m bid for Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson.

The 27-year-old made just eight appearances for the Gunners last season and is largely out of favour at the Emirates despite Hector Bellerin’s long injury lay-off opening the door for a right-back to stake a claim.

He was given his longest spell in a first team when he was sent out on-loan to West Ham for 18 months between 2014 and 2016, making 52 Premier League appearances.

But upon returning to his parent club Jenkinson has failed to establish himself, with youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles forcing his way into a more regular spot and playing 30 games last season.

Palace are searching for a new right-back following the departure of Aaron Wan-Bissaka earlier last week, who made the move to Manchester United in a £50m deal.

But Eagles fans are desperately trying to ensure they do not fork out any of that money for the Arsenal man.

The Chalkboard: Where could Nicolas Pepe fit in at Liverpool?

[ad_pod ]

It has been reported that Liverpool want to sign Lille forward Nicolas Pepe and have made an offer to the Ligue 1 side for his services, and it would definitely be one of the biggest transfers of the summer were it to happen.

The Ivory Coast international hit 22 goals and recorded 12 assists last term as Lille finished second in the French top-flight, bursting onto the scene after he hit 14 goals in 38 games the previous season.

Liverpool are fairly light in attack behind Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, and have only been weakened further by the departure of Daniel Sturridge.

You can relive Liverpool’s Champions League celebrations in glorious 2D thanks to the guys at 442oons in the video below…

Pepe would add excellent depth to Jurgen Klopp’s frontline as he can play as a right-forward or as a centre-forward, so let’s take a look at a few ways Liverpool could line up with the 24-year-old in their ranks…

This system would be in the instance that Firmino is out injured, like he was against Barcelona, when Klopp had to play Gini Wijnaldum as a striker in the first leg and in the second half of the second leg.

Of course, if the Brazilian is fit he will play, but this system in which Salah reverts to a centre-forward position – where he played at the start of 2018/19 – will allow Pepe to play on his natural side.

Equally, that first system is interchangeable and Pepe may find himself centrally whilst Salah drifts out to the right, where he is a danger when cutting in on his right foot.

Klopp has already expressed his desire to see ‘flexible football’ in the past, emphasising the fact that his attackers needn’t stick to their positions.

This last system sees Firmino in his False 9 position, and is in the instance where Salah may be missing through injury or suspension, as he was in the second leg of the Champions League against Barcelona after suffering concussion.

Firmino pulling the centre-backs infield would allow for a lot of space to be run into by Mane and Pepe, which could cause mayhem.

Hector Bellerin discusses Arsenal’s season on Instagram

Bellerin has spent a large part of the season injured. He has been at Arsenal so long that this post seems genuine – he truly does want the best for the Arsenal fans.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles is tagged in the post with Bellerin praising him, but in truth he was poor against Chelsea, getting caught out in position for the first goal and giving away a needless penalty.

Going forward, he looked dangerous but had no end product.

Arsenal will reflect on a disappointing season with much work needing to be done in the summer if the Gunners are to really push for the top four next year.

The only thing that could make Arsenal’s season worse is a Tottenham Champions League win on Saturday.

Newcastle United: Rafa Silva can tune up Benitez’s attack

If their battling display against Liverpool showed anything, Newcastle United’s attacking style under Rafa Benitez is definitely effective.

Indeed, they’ve shown their capability in putting the opposition under pressure with their high-voltage counter-attacks and physical dominance but are certainly often lacking that creative spark to open the floodgates. That touch of class could be all the difference on Tyneside.

Clearly, they’re missing the cutting edge in attack, often reliant on their strikers to bail them out. However, according to reports from Portuguese radio station Radio Renascenca’s Bola Branca show, via Sport Witness, they’re aiming to fill that void by signing Benfica’s £51.3 million-rated Rafa Silva. The namesake for Benitez, he’s created magic in the Liga NOS with some terrific performances.

Having the ability to threaten from anywhere in the attacking line, Silva can be the perfect fix for their left-wing problems. The Portuguese had his breakthrough season with Benfica, scoring 15 goals, assisting 2 in the league. A tricky player to defend against, Silva’s excellent dribbling ability, electric pace and wherewithal to get into promising space make him a dangerous winger.

He’s a man of many talents, with his excellent wing-play guaranteed to add another dimension to Newcastle’s attack. The 25-year-old’s a dangerous figure, having averaged 1.6 key passes, 2.3 shots, 2.3 dribbles complete per game (stats via WhoScored) as well.

Think a total upgrade on Chrisitan Atsu and someone to join the likes of Ayoze Perez and Miguel Almiron in creating an attack with so many points of reference. Too often, the Toon look all too predictable, so adding a new point of attack would take the black and white cause up a whole new level.

The idea of him lining up alongside the attack already in play for Newcastle should have mouths watering in the terraces, if the club can push a deal over the line. Yes, it’s hard to back the current regime at St. James’ Park to sort anything out but, if this is the ilk of signing they’re after, these could be exciting times for the club.

Rafa can bring that missing spark to help the Magpies achieve their maximum potential attacking-wise. His technical technique can be a hit in the Premier League, allowing him to dazzle the fans while also create chances for Perez and co.

He might be an expensive buy but can instal a ruthlessness which makes Newcastle’s attack more effective next season.

Newcastle fans react as Ritchie reportedly nears exit

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Newcastle fans have been reacting to a transfer report, which claims that Matt Ritchie could leave the club this summer.

According to The Sun, Ritchie has been told he can leave Tyneside this summer.

The report claims the winger turned wing-back requested a new deal in a meeting with Rafael Benitez recently, but was rejected.

Set to turn 30 around the start of next season, the Scot was told he would not be offered new terms because of his age.

The age limit on signings and contract extensions has become a major talking point under Mike Ashley, and unsurprisingly fans are not happy with this report.

Ritchie has never produced the end product he did at Bournemouth for the Magpies, but his work rate, leadership and versatility is second to none.

Loads of fans have been giving their reactions to the report, and it’s a mixture of anger, disbelief and even a couple who think it may be a blessing in disguise.

Steven Gerrard needs to prove he’s worth all these investments for Rangers

Steven Gerrard has invested big at Rangers already and he does not look like stopping anytime soon, with two new signings reportedly in the offing.

As per Football Insider, Rangers are closing in on the signatures of Motherwell attacker Jack Hastie and Birmingham City playmaker Greg Stewart.

Hastie has been the subject of interest from a number of English clubs, but it looks like the Glasgow behemoths are going to pip them all this summer with terms apparently on a long-term contract already agreed between the club and player (as per Footballer Insider).

A Rangers source has also revealed that Rangers are in advanced negotiations to ready to welcome Stewart to Ibrox on a pre-contract and beat Derby County and Aberdeen to his signature.

Both Hastie and Stewart will be available on free when their contracts run out at the end of the campaign and this has alerted Gerrard, Rangers and their director of football Mark Allen to the potential of replicating the immense success they had with Scott Arfield and Allan McGregor this time last year, whose deals also expired at Burnley and Hull City, respectively.

The power and influence the league leaders have previously enjoyed allowing them to bring in the likes of Timothy Weah and Oliver Burke has given them a major advantage, but with Rangers seemingly on the mend and on their way up, there is no reason why they cannot flex their influence in the market and return Ibrox to its former glory. Starting with Hastie and Stewart.

It is time now for Steven Gerrard to lay down the gauntlet and prepare his players for a test of their resolve. No excuses for anyone.

All will be forgiven: Leeds fans begging Garry Monk for a result

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United fans have had to swallow their pride and ask their former manager Garry Monk to do them a favour and beat Sheffield United on Wednesday night.

Monk took charge of Leeds for the 2016/17 season and led them to seventh place with the club only missing out on the play-offs due to a late-season collapse as they failed to win any of their final five games.

The former Swansea defender resigned at Elland Road after just one year in charge that summer.

Leaving after what was such a positive spell at the time was disappointing and it left a sour taste in the mouth of a lot of Leeds when he joined Middlesbrough just a few weeks after leaving the Yorkshire side.

The fanbase now have had to resort to asking Monk for a favour. The 40-year-old takes charge of Birmingham City against Sheffield United on Wednesday night and a win for the Blues would leave Leeds in the driving seat in the race for automatic promotion.

Here’s what Leeds fans have been saying on Twitter…

Confidence booster: Rangers fans heap praise on Barisic

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Rangers fans have been reacting to an impressive international performance, as Borna Barisic grabbed his first Croatia goal on Wednesday night.

It feels like Rangers have been waiting all season for Barisic to come into his own, as the 26 year-old clearly has a lot to offer.

After joining from NK Osijek for a fee of around £2m, the left-back showed glimpses of his potential, impressing early on with his wicked deliveries into the box, particularly in the Europa League where he racked up a goal and three assists.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below…

His form has since fallen off a cliff though, repeatedly being caught out of position, showing poor defensive awareness and often just not looking up for the fight and pressure that comes with donning the famous blue shirt.

The Steven Gerrard signing may just have got the boost he needs though, grabbing his side’s first goal in a comeback win against Azerbaijan on Thursday.

The World Cup finalists fell behind when Ramil Seydaev put the 108-ranked visitors in front, but the Gers ace levelled before Andrej Kramaric scored the winner.

Loads of fans have been running the rule on Barisic’s goal and performance, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…

Leeds fans were ecstatic with Alioski’s display vs West Brom

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United produced a scintillating performance on Friday night to utterly outclass fellow Championship promotion chasers West Brom at Elland Road. The Whites deservedly won by a 4-0 scoreline, secured with goals from Pablo Hernandez, Patrick Bamford who netted twice, and Ezgjan Alioski.

Alioski’s goal came late, in injury time, and was a deserved reward for his all round performance. The 27-year-old left-back worked relentlessly hard all night for Marcelo Bielsa’s side. He constantly harried, pressed and chased his opponents, winning tackles and breaking up play. He also got forward at every opportunity and was a persistent threat to the Baggies’ defence.

The goals took the 25-cap Macedonia international’s tally for the season to seven, and he has also racked up five assists, as per Transfermarkt’s stats.

Leeds fans were delighted with the performance the No. 10 produced on Friday. After the match, many supporters took to Twitter to praise Alioski for his tireless display…
