Spurs eyeing new forward with Semenyo set to join Man City

Tottenham are looking to sign a new forward in the upcoming transfer window, with AFC Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo being identified as a target, but it now appears as though the Ghanaian could be heading to a rival Premier League club.

Indeed, Manchester City have seemingly won the race for Semenyo, as a move to the Etihad Stadium would provide him with the platform to compete for major trophies.

Consequently, Spurs will presumably have to move on to alternative targets, and it was recently revealed that Man City ace Savinho has now emerged as a serious option.

However, the Lilywhites are also considering options from further afield, with a report from TEAMtalk revealing they are now among the clubs most keen on signing Juventus star Kenan Yildiz, alongside Chelsea, while Arsenal have also expressed an interest.

Yildiz is Tottenham’s ‘dream’ attacking target, having emerged as one of football’s ‘most exciting breakout talents’, but it could take a huge bid to tempt the Italian club into sanctioning a sale, with a £88m price tag recently being touted.

The report also provides an update on the Turk’s future at Juventus, with it stating the Serie A side’s new sporting director, Marco Ottolini, is expected to open talks over a new contract, and there is an awareness the 20-year-old would prefer to remain in Turin.

It is disappointing that Tottenham have seemingly missed out on Semenyo, as the Ghana international has already proven himself in England, scoring eight goals in 16 Premier League outings this term, while also providing three assists.

However, the Juventus star has proven that he could be a solid alternative, having put in some top performances this season, weighing in with five goals and four assists in 15 Serie A matches.

A collapse after Parthiv’s wicket had left the issue open in giving Delhi a manageable target of 274, but veteran RP Singh, playing his first match in the knockout stages, settled the matter with an opening burst of 4 for 23, which included a first-ball wicket of Rishabh Pant and later those of Shikhar Dhawan and Gautam Gambhir.Delhi continued to trust their bowlers, and perhaps were wary of the dew in the first day-night match of the tournament, when they asked Gujarat to bat. Rujul Bhatt, who after Axar Patel has been Gujarat’s best player of the tournament, danced down and slogged Bhati over midwicket for a six while Parthiv repeatedly kept tucking away runs off his hips, which he used to struggle to do in international cricket.Parthiv and Bhatt added 149 for the third wicket, the highest for the third wicket in this tournament. Parthiv hit 10 fours, mainly through cuts and flicks off the hips. Bhatt hit four fours and a six in his 60 off 74 runs, which took his tournament tally to 338, which is the highest for Gujarat and the ninth-highest overall. They were helped along by two sets of four overthrows, various fumbles and a few clumsy dives.To add to this, Delhi will look back at two crucial moments. Inzamam-ul-Haq, the former Pakistan captain, is the latest international star to have been approached by the Indian Cricket League (ICL).Inzamam, who announced his retirement from one-day cricket after Pakistan’sfailed World Cup campaign, confirmed that ICL officials had contacted him. “They have been in touch with me and I am considering their offer,” Inzamam told Cricinfo. “If the terms are right, I will play.”The parallel league has stirred the cricket world, evoking visions of aKerry Packer-style circuit. The players it has targeted so far, however, are those who have retired from international cricket in one form or another. The sun was not able to even get a peek – light would have definitely been a concern – and India will be concerned about a similar forecast for tomorrow.”If the [rain] god was a West Indian today, I hope it is an Indian tomorrow,” said Greg Chappell at the end of a muggy day. “We have no control over the weather but we got them out in 80 overs in the first innings and hopefully a full day tomorrow would enable us to take nine remaining wickets.”

Shane Bond, the New Zealand bowler, has said that he feels that he is nearing his best form as he took one for 28 off 8 overs for New Zealand Academy against they beat Australian Institute of Sports (AIS) by 60 runs at Brisbane.Recovering from a major back surgery, Bond said that he was happy with his progress since the New Zealand Academy’s tour of Australia started. “It’s getting better day by day. This was my best day today and hopefully I can step it up a notch tomorrow. I’m 100 percent,” said Bond according to a report on stuff.co.nz. He said that he felt no discomfort while bowling, “I’m starting to get a little bit more consistent. It’s nice to be outside getting consistent cricket.”Bond has one more match to play against India’s Karnataka State Cricket Association’s team before returning to New Zealand to prepare for their forthcoming tour of Zimbabwe.

RICKY PONTING has been named captain of the Australian one-day cricket team for the tour of South Africa and Zimbabwe.ADAM GILCHRIST has been named vice-captain by the Australian Cricket Board.The appointments follow STEVE WAUGH’s shock axing as skipper earlier this week.

Daniel Marsh hit a century and Trevor Ward 93 as Leicestershire piled up their biggest total of the season on the first day of the CricInfo Championship clash with Somerset at Grace Road.They were dismissed for 387 right on the close, and there was nobody happier than Ward. The 33-year-old former Kent opener turned back the clock with a gem of an innings – his best score in the Championship for three years.He was the first to admit: “It’s been long overdue,” after his first season at Leicestershire brought him only 110 runs in seven matches.But given his chance for the first time this summer he grabbed it with both hands to set the tone and tempo for the day.And Australian Marsh is already looking an inspired signing as the overseas player. This was the fourth time in seven innings that he has gone past 50 and he is the first Leicestershire player to make a Championship century this season.It all added up to a tough day in the field for understrength Somerset who were minus Test men Andy Caddick and Marcus Trescothick. The one consolation for them was the return to action of young left-arm seamer Matthew Bulbeck after a year’s absence with a stress fracture of the back.He bowled tidily to claim the wickets of Iain Sutcliffe and Vince Wells. There was little else to cheer up the visitors however, on a day dominated by the batsmen after Leicestershire had won the toss.Ward and Sutcliffe shared an opening stand of 79 – Leicestershire’s best for a year – and then Marsh and Darren Stevens put on 147 for the sixth wicket.Ward, who raced to his 50 off 56 balls with nine fours and a six, was out seven runs short of what would have been his first Championship century for four years. He chipped a catch to mid-on having hit another six fours in his 137-ball innings.Marsh then took over, reaching his century off 165 balls with 19 fours. But once Stevens had gone for 63 Marsh had little support from the tail and Michael Burns nipped in to take three for 26 in nine overs. The Australian was undefeated though on 138, boosting his average to 87.

With Gareth Bale set to become a free agent at the end of the season, the 32-year-old has been linked with a number of clubs in recent weeks – with one of the more surprising stories suggesting there is a ‘whisper’ of a move to Celtic.

Indeed, whether or not Ange Postecoglou’s side could offer the Wales international anywhere near the amount of money he would more than likely demand following the conclusion of his £528k-per-week contract at Real Madrid is very much up for debate.

However, while it is true that the forward has not exactly been at his breathtaking best over the last few years in Spain, he would still be a quite extraordinary signing for the Hoops to get over the line this summer.

As previously mentioned, with Bale having made just five first-team appearances for Madrid over the last two seasons, it is clear that the 32-year-old would require a significant amount of work in pre-season in order to get him back up to speed for 2022/23.

However, once he regained his match fitness, the £2.7m-rated forward who scored 106 goals and registered 67 assists over 256 appearances for Los Blancos, in addition to bagging 72 goals and providing 61 assists over 237 outings for Tottenham Hotspur, would undoubtedly be a huge weapon in Postecoglou’s attacking arsenal.

Indeed, the Welshman proved over his 20 Premier League fixtures – only ten of which came as starts – during his temporary return to Spurs last season that he still has what it takes to impress at the highest level of the English game, scoring 11 goals, registering two assists and creating two big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 1.9 shots and making 1.1 key passes per game.

These returns saw the player who Dean Saunders dubbed a “freak of nature” and Ian Darke labelled “frightening” average a quite extraordinary SofaScore match rating of 7.48, not only ranking him as Tottenham’s second-best performer in the league but also the fifth-best player in the division as a whole.
