Everton transfer news on Diaz

Everton fans have had plenty to say about some transfer news which has emerged on summer target Luis Diaz.

As per  Correio da Manha (via Sport Witness), the Goodison Park faithful are still one of a number of clubs in English football interested in signing the FC Porto ace, who they currently value at €50m (£42.5m).

The winger would be a marquee signing for the Merseyside club, given that he has already managed to score six goals and make one assist in eight games in the Portuguese top flight so far this season (Transfermarkt).

However, a lot of Toffees supporters seem to think that signing him would be unrealistic for them, given that they only spent a mere £1.8m in the summer window, and that some teams in the UEFA Champions League are likely to want his signature.

These Blues were blown away when the transfer news was shared on Twitter, with one EFC fan claiming that Diaz is a ‘quality’ player:

“No chance of this happening now apparently he’s had a great start to the season, I said to my mate if we don’t sign him this summer we will lose out to him because he’s going to have the big CL clubs coming in for him”

Journalist lifts lid on new West Ham talent

Taking to Twitter and sharing his piece from The Athletic, Roshane Thomas has lifted the lid on an exciting unseen West Ham United talent in attacker Sonny Perkins.

The Lowdown: West Ham talents emerging…

It is no secret to supporters that West Ham’s academy is currently booming with a fine generation of upcoming talents.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-latest-developments-2/” title=”West Ham latest developments!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Following on from superstar Declan Rice, many young players have followed suit into the fringes of the first team, including Conor Coventry, Jamal Baptiste and Ademipo Odubeko to name a few.

There are plenty more just behind them, with Thomas now lifting the lid on one exciting talent who yet to make a senior competitive appearance under Moyes (Transfermarkt).

The Latest: Journalist lifts lid on Perkins…

According to Thomas, the West Ham manager could have to keep a watchful eye on academy starlet Perkins, who is apparently turning more heads at the club.

As explained by the journalist on Twitter, the 17-year-old is a player who ‘supporters need to know about’ with this era being a ‘positive time’ for the Hammers’ youth setup.

Perkins has scored hat-tricks for club and country and aspires to deputise at the London Stadium for West Ham’s first team. Already, the Irons under-18s starlet looks set to better his goal tally from last season and, as per Thomas, and it shouldn’t be long before we see another talent coming through at Rush Green.

The Verdict: Exciting times…

As well as Perkins, West Ham have also looked at outside resources to bolster their academy, signing the likes of Armstrong Oko-Flex, Pierre Ekwah Elimby and Thierry Nevers in the summer transfer window.

We believe that Moyes should have one very watchful eye on his youngsters, with seemingly no shortage of them coming through in east London. If Thomas is to be taken at his word, Perkins appears to be one of the brightest young jewels of them all.

Predicted West Ham XI to face Leeds

After a contrasting week which saw West Ham trade wins with Manchester United across two different competitions, the Irons now return to Premier League action looking to build on their fine form in 2021/22.

David Moyes will want to bounce back from Sunday’s defeat as they head to Yorkshire to face an injury-ravaged Leeds United at Elland Road.

Having rested several of his key players for the win over the Red Devils on Wednesday night, the 58-year-old could well return to his full-strength starting XI today.

Here’s the lineup Football FanCast are predicting this afternoon…

There could be as many as nine changes from the side which won at Old Trafford this week.

Between the sticks, we’re backing Alphonse Areola to keep his place after a very impressive outing. The 6 foot 5 shot-stopper was a commanding presence in goal and it’s believed that he will eventually become Moyes’ permanent no.1 over Lukas Fabianski before the end of the season – perhaps that begins now.

It’s a big call to make but the 28-year-old PSG loanee has to be given a proper run in the team sooner rather than later. He’ll be joined by an entirely new back four this time around, though.

Vladimir Coufal will start, having replaced Ryan Fredericks early in the first half on Wednesday, whilst Aaron Cresswell returns over Ben Johnson on the other flank. Summer signing Kurt Zouma should continue his partnership with Angelo Ogbonna in the heart of defence.

In midfield, both Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek will feel well rested ahead of kick-off as they were not even named in the matchday squad against Manchester United on Wednesday, though they did travel to support the squad.

The only other player to remain from the victory is Jarrod Bowen, but with Michail Antonio available following his one-game suspension, the 24-year-old likely to go back to the right flank, with the Premier League’s joint-leading scorer back up top.

They will be accompanied by Pablo Fornals in the no.10 role and Said Benrahma out wide.

Forest dealt blow in Morgan Rogers pursuit

Nottingham Forest have been dealt a blow in their bid to bring Morgan Rogers to the City Ground this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by the Daily Mail, who claim that Crystal Palace have now joined the race for the Manchester City winger, with Patrick Vieira believed to be keen to bolster his attacking options in south London ahead of transfer deadline day at the end of the month.

It has been previously reported that a number of Championship clubs, including Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth, are keen on a deal for the 19-year-old, who was in attendance for the Reds’ 2-1 defeat to the Cherries last Saturday.

Murphy will be gutted

Forest were seemingly leading the race for Rogers not that long ago, with Paul Taylor claiming that a switch to the City Ground looked to be progressing quickly. However, reports that a Premier League side in the shape of Crystal Palace have now entered the race for the winger could have left Forest CEO Dane Murphy gutted.

Considering how impressive the England under-19 international was during his loan spell at Lincoln City last season – where he struck up an impressive partnership with Forest’s Brennan Johnson – the potential signing of Rogers certainly appeared to be something of a potential coup for the Reds this summer.

Indeed, over his 28 League One appearances for Michael Appleton’s side last term, the £1.17m-rated forward bagged six goals, registered two assists and created nine big chances for his teammates, as well as taking 1.9 shots and making 1.1 key passes per game.

These returns saw the man who the Imps manager dubbed an “outstanding” player earn a remarkable average SofaScore match rating of 7.09, ranking him as Lincoln’s second-best performer in the league.

However, with the offer of Premier League football likely to be a great deal more appealing than a move to the Championship, Murphy now faces a considerable job in convincing the £19k-per-week City starlet of a move to Forest this summer, which will be hugely frustrating for the Garibaldi CEO.

Manchester United in Ronaldo talks

An update has emerged on Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo, regarding Manchester United’s interest in his services.

What’s the talk?

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have been in talks with Jorge Mendes over a deal to spectacularly re-sign Ronaldo before the end of the transfer window.

Romano claims that the United board are now discussing the finer details of a potential swoop, before going on to Tweet that Manchester City have dropped out of the race.

Fans will be astounded

This transfer twist will surely leave United fans astounded with the prospect of Ronaldo making his way back to Old Trafford in the next few days.

Happy with Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho? How about Ronaldo as well? It could top off a phenomenal window for the Reds – given the striker’s incredible career – and leave the supporters on cloud nine, especially given earlier reports that Man City were leading the race for his signature.

Pep Guardiola’s side were reportedly expected to make a bid for Ronaldo after discussing personal terms with the player’s agent, but they are now out of the running and United could have a clear path to the experienced star’s signature.

Earlier on Friday, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer commented on speculation over Ronaldo’s future and refused to rule out a swoop for the attacker. He said:

“I didn’t think Cristiano was going to turn out leaving Juventus.

“We’ve always had good communication. I know Bruno [Fernandes]’s been talking to him as well and he knows what we feel about him. And if he was ever gonna move away from Juventus he knows we’re here.

“We focus on the ones we have there, I don’t want to speculate too much on Cristiano, what’s happening there with the press.

“I’ve said many times with speculation, when you’re Man United, when you’re Ronaldo, when you’re Messi, when you’re Pogba, when you’re Bruno, you have to read a lot about yourselves. So let’s see what happens with Cristiano, he’s such a legend of this club.”

Five Ballon d’Or’s, five Champions League trophies, over 100 goals for Juventus and Manchester United and 450 for Real Madrid. What more is there to say about the mercurial goal machine that has not already been said? He is a legend of the game, and of Manchester United, and fans would surely be over the moon to see him come through the door before the window slams shut on Tuesday.

This twist from Romano gives fans hope that his arrival is a realistic possibility and we could now be in for an exciting end to the summer from a United perspective.

West Ham table Aguerd bid

According to Football Insider, a new ‘top target’ for the central defensive position has emerged for West Ham as GSB table a bid to sign Rennes colossus Nayef Aguerd.

The Lowdown: West Ham in defender chase…

Before trying to snap up new attackers, with the transfer window deadline now looming at the end of this month, manager David Moyes first has his sights set on landing a star centre-back.

Indeed, reliable club insider ExWHUemployee believes all attention is focused on the signing of a new defender who can reinforce West Ham’s backline before the start of 2021/2022.

The Irons are believed to be in talks for Fiorentina powerhouse Nikola Milenkovic after faltering in their bid to sign Kurt Zouma (Fabrizio Romano), but Football Insider has now brought news on yet another target.

The Latest: West Ham table Aguerd bid…

As per FI, West Ham have made an offer of £15 million to land Aguerd as a new ‘top target’ for Moyes emerges.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-latest-gossip/” title=”West Ham latest gossip…” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

GSB are prepared to pay a ‘significant sum’ to land one star centre-back addition and have received ‘encouraging bulletins’ about the Rennes ace in particular – who can also play in a full-back role.

While the club have bid £15m to sign Aguerd, it is also believed that his club are expected to reject West Ham’s approach as they continue to play ‘hardball’.

As a result, Moyes may have to turn to alternative targets despite their interest in the 25-year-old.

The Verdict: Move on…

Aguerd seems a would-be capable signing and one who could thrive in the Premier League, but if Rennes continue to prove challenging in negotiations, West Ham shouldn’t hesitate in moving on.

The Morocco international averaged a cool and composed 90.4% pass accuracy out from the back over 35 Ligue 1 starts last season, more than any Hammers defender managed by comparison (WhoScored).

Standing at a lofty 6 foot 2, he also possesses the physicality to succeed in England.

However, fellow target Milenkovic could bring similar traits to West Ham and it is believed they are ‘progressing’ in talks.

As such, it is perhaps best for Moyes and co to now focus all their attention on signing the Serbian.

Kennedy: Freddie Woodman close to being top level goalkeeper

Newcastle United writer Liam Kennedy believes that Freddie Woodman is very close to being a top-level goalkeeper.

Woodman was in fine form last season during his loan spell at Swansea City. The shot-stopper kept 22 clean sheets in his 52 appearances for the Swans, in all competitions and helped the club reach the play-off final at Wembley.

Whilst a loan move to Bournemouth was on the cards for Woodman this summer, but due to an injury to Martin Dubravka, Woodman looks like he is staying at St James’ Park and could be the man between the posts in the Magpies’ opening Premier League fixture against West Ham United.

Woodman was given another 45 minutes for the first team in their pre-season match against Burnley, which was his second half of football in pre-season, after playing in his side’s 1-1 draw with Rotherham.

Kennedy believes that Woodman is close to being ready for Premier League football, telling Football FanCast: “I think he’s ready to play football and I do think he is very close to being a top-level goalkeeper, but really we will never know that until he performs week in, week out in the top flight.”

If Woodman starts the Premier League season in goal for Newcastle and puts in a string of good performances, the Magpies will have three top level shot stoppers on their hands, which will create healthy competition for the number one jersey at St James’ Park.

Alan Nixon drops Elliot Embleton update

Sunderland have been handed a boost to their chances of keeping Elliot Embleton at the Stadium of Light this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a claim made by Alan Nixon, with The Sun journalist revealing in a post on Twitter that Blackpool have not, at present, made a second bid for the Black Cats midfielder.

It was previously reported that Neil Critchley had instructed his transfer team to do all they can to secure the services of the 22-year-old in the summer market, although the Seasiders appear to have seen an initial offer for the former England U20 international rejected.

Meanwhile, Sunderland are thought to be desperate to keep hold of Embleton, with Lee Johnson claiming that he will look to give the youngster plenty of game time in the club’s upcoming campaign.

And, after a fan asked Nixon whether or not Blackpool had returned with an improved offer for the midfielder, the journalist said: “Not yet.”

Fans will be buzzing

Considering just how impressive Embleton was while on loan at Blackpool last season, the fact that it appears the 22-year-old could remain at the Stadium of Light beyond the summer is sure to have left fans of the club buzzing.

Indeed, over his 30 League One appearances for Critchley’s team last term, the £4.3k-per-week man scored two goals, registered four assists and created one big chance for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 1.7 shots and making 1.2 key passes per game.

The midfielder also turned in impressive numbers more typical of his position, making an average of 1.1 tackles, winning possession 0.5 times and triumphing in 2.3 duels per match.

These returns saw the man Max Power dubbed as “technically one of the best players I’ve seen” earn a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.90, ranking him as the Seasiders’ 12th-best performer in the third tier of English football – playing a key role in the club securing promotion to the Championship.

As such, with Johnson hoping to mastermind a promotion of his own with Sunderland next season, the return of a player who boasts as much potential as Embleton, as well as one who managed the feat while on loan last term, would certainly appear to give the 40-year-old’s chances of achieving his target a huge boost.

Bent surprised Marco Silva was overlooked by Crystal Palace

Former Crystal Palace striker Marcus Bent has told The Transfer Tavern in an exclusive interview that he is surprised new Fulham boss Marco Silva was not considered for the job in the Selhurst Park dugout.

Prior to the appointment of Patrick Vieira, Palace looked at a host of managers in their quest to replace Roy Hodgson.

That includes Lucien Favre and Nuno Espirito Santo, who both at some point looked like they would be in charge of the Eagles for the upcoming campaign.

Silva, however, now managing Fulham after Scott Parker’s move to Bournemouth, was not a name under consideration and that has surprised Bent.

“I’m surprised a lot of clubs haven’t considered him for a while, to be honest,” the ex-Palace player said. “Maybe they’re looking at Vieira as a name, but I think he [Silva] would’ve been a good appointment.”

The Vieira appointment is an interesting one, with the Frenchman lacking Premier League experience, in contrast to 43-year-old Silva, who has had spells at Watford and Everton.

With his stature in the game, though, perhaps Vieira will be able to attract players at a time where Palace are undergoing a revamp. Their squad is, of course, down to the bare-bones right now due to expired contracts.

Celtic: Sheffield United yet to receive offers for George Baldock

Sheffield United are yet to receive any concrete offers for reported Celtic target George Baldock, according to The Athletic.

The Lowdown: Baldock links

Baldock, who was wanted by Neil Lennon back in 2019, has emerged on the Hoops’ radar once again this month.

Reports suggested that Celtic would be willing to pay £5-8m for the 28-year-old, who has just 12 months left on his £10,000-a-week Bramall Lane deal.

Recent stories have claimed that Baldock is on a list of potential right-back targets, with Ange Postecoglou spending days watching footage of those targets.

He’s reportedly approved a potential deal for Baldock, however, it doesn’t look as if Celtic have made an official bid as of yet.

The Latest: No offers

The Athletic’s Richard Sutcliffe shared a story regarding the Blades’ transfer business on Friday.

He addressed both incomings and outgoings, admitting ‘there have been no concrete offers’ for Baldock – an interesting six-word update as you’d think Celtic may have made their move going off recent reports.

The Verdict: Celtic looking abroad?

Since Celtic’s interest in Baldock came out at the beginning of the month, the Hoops have been linked to two right-backs from Ligue 1 side Rennes.

Brandon Soppy and Sacha Boey are the full-backs in question, so perhaps the Hoops are looking to explore the European market over a swoop for Baldock.

It could make perfect sense, especially with Baldock not looking to depart Yorkshire. Right-backs are required at Celtic Park before the new season, but at this moment in time, a move for Baldock appears unlikely.
