After victory over West Ham United last weekend, Liverpool looked to their game against Sunderland as an ideal chance to make it back-to-back wins in the Premier League and stop the rot. The Black Cats had different ideas, however, and soon reminded the Reds why they find themselves in the position they’re in.

In many ways, Chemsdine Talbi’s deflected effort summed up Liverpool’s recent fortunes. With the Premier League champions entering the game off the back of two Anfield losses, the last thing they needed was for Virgil van Dijk’s block to find the back of Alisson Becker’s net.

One positive for Liverpool in recent weeks has been the form of Florian Wirtz, though, and at long last the German made his mark in the Premier League. His effort went down as a Nordi Mukiele own goal, but there’s no doubt that one of the summer’s most expensive signings stepped up to get his side level.

It was far from a vintage display from the champions, but they’ll at least be relieved to avoid another defeat. Following victory at West Ham, Slot’s side should see the Leeds United game this weekend as the opportunity to turn the narrative to two wins from three games in the same week.

That said, whether Alexander Isak plays a part this weekend remains to be seen. The Swede didn’t follow up from last weekend’s first Premier League goal for the club and had just 15 touches, much to Carragher’s frustration.

Watching on from commentary, Carragher slammed Isak as “really poor” and said that the forward has no “excuses” for his disappointing form at this stage of the campaign.

After smashing their transfer record to welcome the £280,000-a-week star, Liverpool were in dreamland in the summer. Alas, that dream has quickly turned into a nightmare for all involved.

Isak has gone from strike to strike-less at times. Liverpool sit eighth and their attack has never seemed so toothless under Slot. With Hugo Ekitke also struggling to find the back of the net in recent weeks, there’s no doubt that the Reds have an attacking problem on their hands.

It doesn’t get any easier, either. On paper, a trip to a newly promoted side should be a routine affair, but Liverpool will be squaring off against a Leeds side who just defeated Chelsea.

Before then, Slot simply has to find a way to get Isak more involved. With just 15 touches, the Swede was always likely to struggle.

والتقى ليفربول ووست هام قبل أيام، ضمن منافسات الجولة الثالثة عشر للدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز “البريميرليج”، وتعرض باكيتا للطرد وشهدت المباراة هزيمة فريقه بهدفين دون رد.

وقال نونو سانتو في تصريحات نشرتها صحيفة “ذا أثليتك”: “تحدثت مع لوكاس واعتذر لزملائه في الفريق”.

وأضاف: “إنه يدرك أخطائه، لكننا كنادٍ نحمي أنفسنا، حلّينا المشاكل فيما بيننا، ومن الواضح أن الجميع يدرك أن الأخطاء واردة في ملاعب كرة القدم، أحيانًا لا يمكنك التحكم في مشاعرك، والجميع يستحق فرصة”.

وأكد: “إنه ليس بخير، ويعاني، يشعر بخيبة أمل وحزن، لكنه يُدرك الخطأ الذي ارتكبه، ويريد المضي قدمًا، أحيانًا لا يدرك الناس جميع المشاكل التي يواجهها لاعبو كرة القدم، لكن لوكاس سيتجاوز هذا الوضع”.

وتطرق نونو سانتو للحديث عن مستقبل باكيتا الذي كان على وشك الانضمام لمانشستر سيتي، لكن بسبب تحقيق الاتحاد الإنجليزي لكرة القدم في قضية تلاعب بالنتائج في أغسطس 2023، لم تتم الصفقة، وقد بُرّئ في يوليو بعد تحقيق استمر عامين.

وأفاد المدرب: “أعتقد أن (محنة التحقيق) تؤثر عليه، لكنه مستعد للمضي قدمًا، ولعب كرة القدم كما هو، ووضع كل ذلك جانبًا، هنا في النادي، نقدم ونقدم كل الدعم الذي يحتاجه اللاعبون، لقد أجرينا محادثة جيدة، والفريق يدعم لوكاس، بالتأكيد، أعتقد أنه سعيد هنا”.

قلب فريق بايرن ميونخ الألماني الطاولة على خصمه سبورتينج لشبونة البرتغالي، وحول تأخره إلى فوز بثلاثية لهدف في منافسات دوري أبطال أوروبا.

واستقبل بايرن ميونخ خصمه سبورتينج لشبونة على ملعب “آليانز آرينا”، ضمن مباريات الجولة السادسة لمرحلة الدوري ببطولة دوري أبطال أوروبا.

شوط المباراة الأول انتهى بتعادل سلبي، وفي الشوط الثاني استفاد سبورتينج من هدف عكسي، حيث سجل جوشوا كيميش بالخطأ في مرمى فريقه بايرن ميونخ بالدقيقة 54.

وفي الدقيقة 65 أدرك بايرن ميونخ التعادل بهدف جنابري، حيث سدد مايكل أوليس ركلة ركنية، ووصلت الكرة لجنابري وسدد على الطائر في مرمى روي سيلفا من مسافة قريبة.

ومرر كونراد لايمر تمريرة سريعة داخل منطقة الجزاء إلى لينارت كارل، اللاعب البالغ من العمر 17 عامًا وجد مساحةً أمام المرمى وسدد بقوة من زاوية صعبة ليمنح بايرن ميونخ التقدم بهدف ثانٍ في الدقيقة 69.

أكد وائل جمعة نجم الأهلي ومنتخب مصر السابق، أن مشاركة المنتخب الثاني في بطولة كأس العرب هذه النسخة ستكون مختلفة عن النسخة الماضية بسبب اختلاف الظروف.

وقال وائل جمعة في تصريحات على قناة “بي إن سبورتس”: “نتمنى أن مشاركة منتخب مصر في كأس العرب تُكلل بالتوفيق والفوز بالبطولة فالظروف مختلفة، عن البطولة الماضية، كنت أتمنى مشاركة لاعبي المنتخب الأول في البطولة كأعداد لكأس أمم إفريقيا مثل منتخب تونس، وتكون فرصة لزيادة الانسجام والتفاهم بين اللاعبين والاستفادة بالبطولة، كل التوفيق للمنتخب الثاني”.

وعن مباراة الأهلي والجيش الملكي في دوري أبطال إفريقيا، أكد: “كانت هناك مشكلة واجهت توروب عند قدومه وهي الضعف الدفاعي للأهلي قبل توليه المسؤولية، والفريق كان يتعرض للاختراق للعمق وكانت مسؤولية صعبة، وهو كمدرب مطالب بالتعامل معها، وهو تعامل معها بشكل جيد وخاصة أمام شبيبة القبائل الجزائري”.

وواصل: “الثنائي مروان وديانج أعطى عمقًا للأهلي وأنهوا الخطورة التي كان يقع فيها قلبي الدفاع، توروب أعطى حرية هجومية لـ بن شرقي وزيزو وتريزيجيه، والأهلي تضرر من رحيل وسام أبو علي، ولو كان متواجدًا ستكون انتاجية الأهلي أفضل من ذلك، والأهلي مطالب أن يتعاقد مع رأس حربة في الفترة المقبلة”.

وأختتم: ” كوكا من اللاعبين المجتهدين، الأهلي لديه مشكلة، غياب محمد شكري الذي أتى من اجل تعويض رحيل علي معلول، يوجد مركزين لا بد من تدعيمهم في فريق الأهلي الظهير الأيسر والمهاجم”.  

Are Newcastle United finally clicking into gear this season?

It appears that way, with Eddie Howe’s Magpies now three wins from their last three matches in all competitions, which included an excellent 2-0 EFL Cup win being picked up over Thomas Frank’s challenging Tottenham Hotspur last time out at St James’ Park.

Still, the Toon only have three wins next to their name in the Premier League from their opening nine clashes, meaning more positive results need to be picked up in the bread and butter of the top-flight soon, with away trips to West Ham United and Brentford now on their agenda.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men will, no doubt, be fearful of Newcastle’s attack as they loiter near the bottom of the tough division, with Nick Woltemade helping himself to yet another goal against Spurs to add to his ever-increasing Magpies back catalogue.

Woltemade would ensure his new side would progress through to the quarter finals of the EFL Cup when he headed this effort past a hapless Antonín Kinský.

He hasn’t just reserved his goals this season for when he comes up against stand-in goalkeepers, however, with Woltemade also boasting a mightily impressive four strikes back in league action, which has even led to opposition managers such as the Brighton and Hove Albion boss Fabian Hurzeler hailing him as “special” in what he can uniquely offer the Tyneside giants.

Indeed, it isn’t just a lethal edge that the 6-foot-6 marksman can provide, whether that be when he’s racing through on goal, or being positioned intelligently to head home a cross, with Woltemade also often in the correct spaces to progress his side’s efforts going forward with a killer pass.

He was at the heart of Harvey Barnes’ goal against Benfica in the Champions League, for example, as his ingenious flick then led to the number 11 firing home, after Anthony Gordon had played it into his path.

To put it simply, acquiring the ex-Stuttgart striker for £69m – although looking rather steep at the time – has now gone down as a “first class” signing, as his manager has recently stated.

Howe and Co. could well look to this coming January in trying to win more attacking firepower in a similar vein to their new star-man, as one move is reportedly eyed up…

Newcastle's search for another striker

After all, although William Osula has looked dangerous off the bench for Newcastle in recent matches, there is a lack of depth in the striker spot at St James’ Park – with Yoane Wissa still sidelined.

This might spark the Magpies into attempting to seal Alexander Sorloth’s signature in January, as Ross Wilson plots what his first bit of business at his new club will be as the fresh sporting director.

Newcastle could do far worse than landing Sorloth if rumours are to be believed, with Spanish outlet Marca – via Sport Witness – that eyes are very firmly on the Norwegian’s exploits at Atletico Madrid between now and the transfer window swinging open, with scouts from Newcastle previously watching the 29-year-old in action back in September.

The similarities between Woltemade and the Scandinavian are immediately obvious, with Sorloth coming in at a gigantic 6-foot-4 frame himself.

On top of that, despite some wobbles this season under Diego Simeone, he has been a reliable source of goals for most of his stay in Spain to date, leading to the fiery Simeone lauding him as a “phenomenal” finisher.

Looking at the table above, it’s clear that Sorloth possesses the same split-second instinct Woltemade possesses when finishing off chances, with this season seeing him bag three goals, despite only averaging 40 minutes of action in La Liga per game.

In total, the 66-time Norway international now has 61 Spanish top-flight strikes next to his name, which far outweighs his German counterpart’s Bundesliga tally of 14 goals.

It’s unlikely that he would usurp Woltemade from the get-go, but as another second-in-command option for a potential £27m fee, it feels like a no-brainer to chase after.
